Just wanted to let everyone know who haven't tried Linux yet and are running an older computer.... DO IT!

Even though this computer was top shelf in 2002 (see signature), it now runs like a champ, even faster than GF's parent's new Dell Inspiron 1750 on Windows 7, seriously.

I first tried Ubuntu, but got discouraged (no patience) and tried to re-install XP pro.... And then found Linux Mint 8. Its a very graphic/point and click OS for noobs like me. No driver issues whatsoever, even with internal wireless card and nvidia card... I am running Wine-HQ so can use MS Office 2007. I could not be happier!

You can try something even lighter if you're looking for more speed. I just ran Linux Mint 8 w/xfce off of a usb and was disappointed with how much memory it takes up. IMO try Puppy/Lubuntu on older machines.

    edit: btw, Geforce ti4400? Awesome.

It depends on how you installed it. aptitude remove or apt-get remove normally.

I love my Linux Mint distro but disappointed with the non availability of Intel GMA 3100 graphics driver for my Asus P5KPL-AM/PS mother board.

The only way to keep the monito on is by pressing F2 and running in recovery mode which is NON-GUI, Terminal only... Aaaaahhhhhh!!!!!

Does anybody know what commands i need to type in to stop/remove/uninstall the driver?

Well, super! Any ideas? Is reinstallation of OS the easiest way to resolve this problem?

I recieved help from another forum giving the same advice.... command lines ARE case-sensitive... Duh....... I had no idea.... Went to xorg.conf and changed driver from "nvidia" to "nv".

    thanks everyone!
