What makes google chrome so special? Why do people like it so much? I know it is new, but I don't see what is so special.

Oh, I see. But from a functionality point of view does it have any features that are better/different than Firefox, IE, Opera etc..?

Thanks for the link Zoid, I signed up too.The reason I lke Chrome is that it is an internet browser, nothing more nothing less and top of that its fast, has a great interface and is opensource(BSD license).

You guys should listen to Security Now 161. They talk extensively about Chrome. Lets say that I'm not too enthusiast about trying it now...

Here goes the "OOOooo.... Ahhhh~ Browser wars". First the console wars, now browsers. It's really becoming a time where conventions are overthrown. Still, if it doesn't bring anything "OOO!! AHHhh!~" compared to firefox, I won't find myself leaning towards it.

I'm happy as long as I'm not using IE. Period.

I'm NOT lying here. I have Google Chrome on Vista, and Firefox. Google Chrome has crashed on me twice(the interface), and Firefox has never crashed on me. You don't have to believe me, but this is a genuine screenshot:
Seriously... I really don't find it that stable, and I hate the UI. I use Firefox over it. BTW, I run Ubuntu primarily, and use Google as my main search engine- I'm not bias. :p.

I have had Chrome crash once since release day (Vista), but Firefox locked up on me a lot. I still use a different browser every now and then (maybe once every two weeks) for a very certain task.

I like Chrome because it is fast, I like the light UI, and I like the search/url bar. I search a lot - and being able to type a google search from anywhere, and being able to search WIki, or newegg, or ebay, or whatever instantly from that is very handy for me. I also like the right click search option, and the paste and search/go options.

yeah, i find firefox crashing lots on me when running linux. Its not a firefox problem though, its npviewer.bin (i believe thats the flash plugin), but if google chrome can crash less and still use flash, then maybe ill switch over.

One reason to use Chrome would be the fact that it's quite substantially faster than any other browser out there when it comes JavaScript, at least according to some tests. Another reason in favor is the way it was designed - every tab runs in separate process which in theory prevents whole browser from crashing when just one tab falls on face; it should also improve memory usage and prevents memory leaks.

Reason against using it - it sends some info about what you do with the browser straight to teh google, which may be an issue for some of us that are more concern with their privacy. Also native linux version is yet to be seen, so is Adblock.

Those issues however will probably be addressed in time as the whole project is open source so probably at some stage some one will grab the code and do the right thing

hmmm, honestly i find that hard to believe (unless of course the units of measurement on the Y-axis are so small that the 1000+ google chrome beats the other browsers by means virtually nothing). If it is that much faster though, I doubt the speed increase matters to anyone seeing as how the difference we actually see will be minuscule taking into account the power of our computers vs the resources needed to run any web browser.

Even then, I would think the ratios take greater significance. I have nothing to say about the value or accuracy of the data, though. Like many others, I am waiting for Chrome to arrive for linux.
