So...I installed Ubuntu 9.10. alongside Win 7 and now GRUB refuses to show it's interface. I'm caught in a loop that oscillates between the intial manufacturer graphic and another screen with a flashing _GRUB line.

How do I get GRUB to at least boot one of my operating systems?

    Thanks in advance.

    try this quick fix first...
1.pop in your windows 7 install disk..
2.go through choosing "Language", "Time", and "keyboard Input" on the first window and click next....
    3. click "repair your computer"
    4.choose "command prompt"
    5. type in bootrec/fixmbr

or you can also try this:

if the above doesn't work you can try Super Grub Disk. (I just had to do this myself)
you can download and install it to a flash drive with UNetBootin.
What you can do with Super Grub Disk is replace the MBR which at the moment has grub with the Windows one. The downside is that the Windows one doesn't look or doesn't see the Ubuntu installation, I don't what to do about that just yet.
When you reboot and boot from your flash drive Super Grub will show a couple of options, choose your language with help (there's an option not to have help). It will describe the various options Super Grub has and you can go from there.

If you want to be able to boot to either OS, you should first just try reinstalling Grub. Burn a Super Grub Disk boot CD, (or USB), as Billt Joe suggested, but then use it to restore, or reinstall, Grub, following these directions.

    Good Luck..
