I'd like to run Hardy Heron from my 1gb USB flash drive in persistent mode. I had no trouble with Gutsy Gibbon, but HH does not seem to work. I can boot from the USB in live mode, but not persistent.

I have a 750 mb fat16 partition with the contents of the ISO disk (copying isolinux dir to / and renaming isolinux.cfg to syslinux.cfg and changing references to /cdrom), and a 250 mb ext2 partition. It boots fine in live tryout mode, but if I add a persistent parameter, it boots to a busybox.

Any other information I can provide?

By the way, HH is very nice.

EDIT: Looking at posts on ubunutuforums, it seems persistent USB is broken. That would explain the problems I'm having.

I have a couple of other problems using Hardy on a persistent USB flash drive.
    1. In order to use cups, I have to issue
    2. I can't initialize mysql. This problem is related to 1.--it's caused by the package apparmor. But here the same trick doesn't work--
    has no effect.

Both problems are caused by apparmor, which seems to be disabled on the liveCD, except in persistent mode.
