I have an Asus g50vt a1 laptop. I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 yesterday. I can play sounds out of the speakers on the laptop but when I plug a headset in it mutes the sound and I can't hear anything from the headphones. The headphones work fine in vista. I have researched this problem but haven't found a solution. Does anybody know what the problem is?

I am assuming you are using gnome. If so, go to your system tray up top at the right. Double click the little speaker icon. This should bring up a volume control window with 2 tabs. One tab should be called "Playback" and the other should be called "Switches". Click on the switches tab and click on the check box for headphone.

This is a common problem with the G50, you need to add an option to a config file. Hit Alt+F2 and type:
    Code:
    gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
Paste in this line to the bottom of the file and hit Save:
    Code:
    options snd-hda-intel model=m51va
Then hit Alt+F2 again and type:
    Code:
    gksudo /usr/sbin/alsa force-reload
..and the headphone sense should work.

There is a more detailed explanation here: http://www.linlap.com/wiki/asus+g50v#sound

My Flash on youtube and other websites SUCKS, on youtube i can barely get through a whole video without it messing up and on other sites that support flash I get very messed up images and videos. Its terrible, its not related to the fix for the previous problem however
    [IMG]
    here is a picture example
notice the player button on the ad, it is on all flash things before they start LAGGY AND ANNOYING

and im not sure about this but when im on ubuntu THIS SITE IS EXTREMELY SLOW, on windows its fine but on ubuntu....

You're using a free and open source alternative to flash, you need to enable Medibuntu repo's and install flash plugin non-free. If you're okay with it that is. Flash alternatives are crap but flash 32bit is provided by Adobe and will work just as fine as on windows.

You should be able to install the official flash player with:
    Code:
    sudo aptitude install flashplugin-nonfree
The default flash player for Ubuntu is Totem, you should be able to remove it with:
    Code:
    sudo aptitude purge totem-mozilla

well i tried the above directions and it helped me remove the defaukt flash but im still having this problem. Im not sure if it is just how 64bit flash is right now or what but here are a few pictures

When I hit the HD or HQ on a youtube video, it freezes the video or plays it in REAALLy bad quality, Changing the sound from the youtube video doesn't do anything, the sound is always on the highest, when i hit a different part of the youube video it freezes, notice how the sound changer on the video is a glitchy red color
    [IMG]

here are the addons I have now, if this helps
    [IMG]

Im not sure if these are problems that everyone with 64bit is having or not becuase adobe has the 64bit flash in the alpha phase

32/64-bit Users: Alternatively, 32-bit users can download the Tar archive from the same link provided above and follow my instructions below. If you're a 64-bit Ubuntu user, download the Tar archive of the 64-bit Flash Player plug-in from the bottom of this page to your desktop.

Once downloaded, simply open the Tar archive, look for a file named "libflashplayer.so", copy that file to your desktop, then both 32-bit and 64-bit users execute the following command in the terminal:

    sudo mkdir /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree && sudo cp -f ~/Desktop/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/ && sudo ln -sf /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so /etc/alternatives/firefox-flashplugin && sudo ln -sf /etc/alternatives/firefox-flashplugin /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins/flashplayer-alternative.so

You may now restart your web browser and use the plugin. You still have the Flash 9 plugin installed and are using it, that's why it won't work for you. You need to uninstall the flash 9 plugin and nsplugin-wrapper for everything to work.

    Wow! Nice Devilish desktop wallpaper...
Ok... it seems that the volume is an external hd connected. The much easier way to unmount it is shutting down the system. As it seems that your system is still in the state of communicating with the hd. This may sometime happens to Windows O.S.

You're gonna have to force it off, haven't done this in a good while so I forget the command but just load up nautilus in root and go to media/data and right click and un-mount.

    Code:
    gksu nautilus

I also suggest you change the lazy wallpaper. It's just an animal pic with a photoshop plugin used. You should check dA for some real art to use. My bad if it's your pic you made. =P
