    Greetings fellow Compal lovers.

As seen in my other thread (which is here somewhere) I recently installed Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) and as I go along, small problems occasionally pop up. Usually swiftly solved as they are, this one has me somewhat baffled.

When I first installed Edgy, WLAN worked fine. My wlan card (the 3945 most hel 80 users here have) was detected fine, and worked like a charm when surfing via the WLAN access points provided by my university. However, at home (where I have an ordinary network) I discovered to my dismay that my WLAN had gone missing from the list under Administration->Networking.

I think this might have something to do with the fact that I booted the computer with the WLAN "button" turned off, but even when rebooting with said button turned "on", the WLAN refuses to re-appear. My guess is there's some service I have to enable manually, but which one, I haven't managed to find, even looking through several wikis. Therefore, I now turn to you, dear Compal lovers, for a solution. I was contemplating whether to post this here or in the official Ubuntu forums, but I figured I'd post it here for easy reference if someone finds themselves with the same problem in the future.

    Thankful for any help,

    Nicke.

What does the output of ifconfig tell you? Also, ahve you got network-manager installed? We usually find here it alleviates 95% of Intel WiFi problems.

Thanks a bunch, Lysander. I apt-get'd network-tools and now it works like a charm =)
