Really, really stupid!
Just got a new M860TU and dual booted Ubuntu 9.04 and Vista64. I could select which OS I wanted to boot into using GRUB.
I guess I must have been daydreaming within Vista, and the next thing I know, I have deleted the partition where Ubuntu lived.
And now, when I reboot, the GRUB gives an error (22) and I can no longer select either OS to boot up to.
So how can I now boot into Visata64 ???

firstly do u have a recovery DVD or the recovery hard drive so u can use it to fix MBR , if you have them boot em and them search for fixing tools or something like that and try to find the cmd (the black screen like in the DOS ) if u can reach this screan i can send u a script that will help u fix your problem

Don't have a recovery DVD. My laptop came with a hidden recovery partition which I can no longer access via F8.
I am able to boot from a Ubuntu live CD - so is it possible to fix the MBR from here ? -
you could try and reinstall grub... perhaps that would give you access to your vista partition. Once you are able to boot into Vista you should be able to recover your MBR.

I believe I have had the same problem before, Super Grub should help you out.
If you can't figure out Super Grub, me or someone else should be able to give you better instructions. -
OK, so I untarred SGD onto my USB flash drive which created a boot directory. Follwed the commands here http://www.supergrubdisk.org/wiki/SGD_Howto_make
However my machine does not want to boot from the pendrive even though USB key is at the top of the startup list in my BIOS. -
Try holding F12 during POST.

another good cd to have is GAG
http://gag.sourceforge.net/download.html
You can jump into a livecd session and select "uninstall GAG" which will clear the bootloader from your system so that you can boot directly back into vista -
Managed to fix it by using ms-sys, and can now boot into vista. Thanks for all the help guys.

now write your recovery DVDs
don't forget that, would have saved alot of time
