Hey everyone. I'm trying to install this on my HP mini 110 and have downloaded the file from the ubuntu website. I can't seem to find a program that can create a bootable USB that I can use. Any suggestions?

The ISO should be in your default download directory.

In Unetbootin you just need that ISO. Don't bother extracting the files. In Unetbootin, choose the option, "Disk Image". Make sure the drop-down menu next to it says, "ISO". Then enter the path to your download directory in the space provided in the same line as those two options.

Then, near the bottom of the screen select your thumb drive you wish to put Ubuntu on.

Here's a quick guide for it. A bit old, but still looks good:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=811397

Here's Unetbootin's walk through: (unlike previous link, includes instructions for if you already have linux installed)

Which drive did you select for Unetbootin to put Ubuntu on? Your thumb drive I hope.

Am I correct that message comes up while you're trying to start the computer? If so, try removing the USB drive while it is off and starting again.

Ok now when it loads up a screen shows up and says UNetbootin and gives three options: Default, Help, and oem and repeatedly says automatic boot with a countdown that just rinses and repeats

What operating system did you use to create the USB with Unetbootin? Also, can you still access the operating system you already had on that computer when the USB drive isn't in the computer?

It sounds like Unetbootin didn't install the bootloader properly. Did you encounter any oddities when it was performing step 4 of the first link I provided? When properly setup, the default shouldn't be repeating like you described. It should allow you to start Ubuntu when selected.

I have used the USB Creator that comes with Ubuntu 9.10 to make a bootable usb -

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick

Installation worked fine on my Aspire One.

    Thing to watch out --
if you use this method - choose "Discarded on shutdown" radio button for the docs and settings.

I still get the same UNetbootin screen that gives me the option for Default and continuously says will automatically reboot in X seconds. I even tried with Xubuntu

    mmm..that's strange..
its either not installing correctly...like gregory said earlier..or
something is wrong with your usb...(depending on if u checked that out or not)
mmm..dark prince has a good suggestion if u can't get unetbootin to work..
    :)

Use the LiveCD method to create your USB stick - its the easiest most foolproof method of creating a bootable Ubuntu USB stick - its a lot easier that fiddling with third party applications at the end of the day!

Yea, so my schools network is garbage and constantly stopped my download at about halfway. My computer read it as complete so thats where I kept running into problems lol. Thanks for all the feedback. I got her up and running.

Now I need to learn how to terminal just because I think its freaking amazing. I'm in Architecture by the way, go figure lol.

Unetbootin is hit and miss with Windows it seems. I will do the same thing twice to make a bootable thumbdrive and it will fail once and work the next.

What I have found works is go into ubuntu (live cd or installed version) and select "Make bootable usb startup disc" and just use the image. That works usually
