You need to use it with the Windows driver for your wireless card. There are instructions in the README file on how to make it work properly.

NDISwrapper should be your best friend. It saved me when i couldn't get wireless to work. Once i learn how to do it with Ubuntu i'll switch my other computer over to it. There is an article in the Ubuntu wiki which will help you, Google for it.

    Link to wiki.

So in Windows Device Manager it says I have a Broadcom Network adaptor and an intergrated controller. Which one do I need the .sys and .inf file from? Both? The only file of the 4 .sys and .inf files I can't find is the network adapter .inf file (BCMWL6.inf ).

If you have the CD then use it and find the XP or Win2k drivers. They should work. If you're looking for it in your computer then use those. Point NDISwrapper to the .inf file. If you're copying it to Ubuntu then copy the whole folder. If you're having trouble finding it show me the Windows device manager screenshot and then take on of your drivers folder.

Here it is. And some more for help. Ubuntu wiki will explain it much better and faster than i could, ask me if you're having troubles though. Shouldn't take you more than 10mins.

There are two primary ways of enabling Broadcom WiFi support under Linux. The first as mentioned is to use the NDISWrapper program which loads the Windows WiFi driver under Linux, and works in cases where there isn't any native Linux WiFi driver support available. Broadcom users also have the option of the using the bcm43xx driver, which also makes use of the Broadcom Windows drivers, and in my opinion should be the method to try first.

There's a lot of documentation for installing Broadcom WiFi linux driver support, using either method, available on the internet, and for specifically installing the bcm43xx driver under Ubuntu. Here is a detailed forum post which describes a good step by step process, and here's the official bcm43xx documentation tree at Ubuntu, that you can look through as well. My advice is to start with installing the most current version of Ubuntu, read through the documents linked above and then try installing the bcm43xx support. If you get stuck on a step, feel free to ask in the Ubuntu user forums, or here, for further help.

BTW, posting the screenshots from your Windows configuration regarding this hardware provides no real help when configuring the driver support under Linux.

    Good Luck..

I'd use fw-cutter, its quite easy.
    Connect your laptop via ethernet.
    go to a terminal, type:
    sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter
    Go To Hardware Drivers,
Enable your Wireless driver, it will download the firmware and put it in place for you.
    Reboot.
    Wireless!

    New problems:
    • The volume controls don't work while the fast forward, rewind, skip and play/pause buttons do work.
    • And, does Paint Shop Pro 11 run in Wine? Can't get it to work.
