I've already had a custom image running for quite some time, but on certain things I'm lost. I don't know even where to start to be honest.![]()
Mainly I want to customize the UI so it's default instead of having to go through and set everything every time I boot from it. If anyone could help I would be very grateful.
What I'm looking to customize are the following:
Appearance -> Industrial controls, Ubuntu-Mono-Light icons.
Where you click on Network connections and edit, and you can uncheck "connect automatically".
Customize firefox, remove all default bookmarks, as well as edit preferences. Mainly, security and advanced sections I remove a lot of options.
System -> Preferences -> Power Management, I'd like the default brightness set to 67% instead of 100%.
File Browser -> Edit -> Preferences; I change the defaults under behaviour and media.
I haven't found a whole lot yet in google that's why I came here for help. I already have a customized ubuntu, but those things above elude me, since I know it has to be done from the commandline.
Other minor things would include having noscript installed by default, sound preferences altered, and the time zone under Time and Date altered.
Could anyone help please? Thanks if you can.

Insert live cd or live usb stick
Insert empty usb stick .. and do a permanent install on it.
Can do even a multi boot on a simple flash drive .. or if the notebook support it on sd card too. -
You totally missed my point. I run from a live cd, I already have a custom image. I do not wish to install it to my hard drive, but to continue to run from a live cd (or USB thumb drive). There are some customizations that I would like to make, that I already explained, that I am not sure how to do. I think they all have to be done from the commandline.

@Roger:
Seems to me you're speaking greek.
I think what you want to do is possible with remastersys. I have never used it but I know that the creator of wattOS uses it to build his flavour of Ubuntu.

Of course, I end up using usb-creator to make my persistent LiveUSBs, so I get where you're coming from on that front. -
I'd like to say that I'll never buy a computer with a preloaded non-free OS again, but of course I can't say what the future will bring. Still at least I'll try. -

@Roger Lots (if not all) of what you want to do is explained here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization
Use gconf-editor to find the settings you want to change. -
Thanks.
That's the guide I used to build my custom image, but some of the things I want to do I'm pretty in the dark about. Looks like I'll have to delve into gconf. Thanks again.
Help me to customize an ubuntu live cd image please
