    my question:
    who cares...?

who cares what other people think about linux, or windows, or leopard/ox/whatever they call mac crap. what random people on the internet think really isnt affecting the OS much. If the developers want to continue creating programs for linux, or windows, or mac, they will continue to do so, as long as people out there will use it, regardless of what one blog says. that guy just wants attention.

his point that a majority of computer users just want a working os they dont need to mess with, instead of all the bells and whistles linux provides, is pretty valid to me. linux just isnt for the masses. its for those who are willing to take the time to figure out how to do things, and willing to take the time to set it up. Altho a lot of linux distros work out of the box for many things now, they just arent like windows/mac oses.

anyway, i reiterate my earlier point: the guy just wants attention.

Hear, hear! I must concur with my honorable NBR colleague. ;)
All jokes aside, I think the flamer who wrote the article has a point because he takes his grandma as an example for the average Windows user.
^^ wrote exactly what I think, most OS users just want something up and running without fiddling. They consider even partitioning 'fiddling'.

(And no, Thomas, not all grandma's use NetBSD to run the family server park. J/K ;) )

In a funny way, it does have a point. :)
I never convinced anyone to use Linux. Oh, but they did. A few days, after they asked me to switch them back to Windows.
