I am looking for a solution to make my nvidia display settings on Linux Mint 4.0 "stick" after a reboot...I will save my screen resolution settings and the refresh rate via nvidia-settings, and then everything is fine, but everytime I reboot my system, the settings get lost and I find myself having to manually re-apply them every time.

I've looked on google and thru Ubuntu forums, and theres alot of threads on this same subject with different tips and steps to keep the settings saved, but none seem to work for me. Does anybody out there who's had this problem figured it out? Please let me know....Thanks.

    Here's some specs:

    Video Card: Quadro FX 570M
    Current Driver: 169.09
    OS: Linux Mint 4.0

Oh, I didn't make it clear, on the nvidia settings, I'm able to set the resolution to 1900X1200 with a 60hz refresh rate, but thru Mint's application itself, somehow the only options I have are 50hz, 51hz, and 52hz. Now after I change the settings thru nvidia-settings, the 1900X1200@60hz will show itself on the Mint application, but once I log off or reboot, everything reverts right back, and the Mint application only shows those above three options.

If you want your X server to permanently use your resolution settings you need to save the setting information to your X configuration file, that's called xorg.conf. There's an option under X Display Server Configuration in the nvidia-settings program to Save to X Configuration File, but you'll need to save the changes to the xorg.conf with super, or root, user privileges.

    Good Luck..

Okay, I tried the suggestion of changing the settings then saving the information to the X Configuration file. The first time I tried it, it didn't work...second time I tried it under su, still didn't work.....So I decided to login under the root account, tried it, logged off root and back into my user account, and the settings seemed to stick....Seemed because while it now shows as 1900X1200@ 60hz under nvidia-settings, it still shows as 1900X1200@ 50hz in the Mint Screen & Graphics Pref. I don't know if it's a bug or what; I'm not sure which application is relaying the right refesh rate info...

Mine says that too, but most LCD screens today only run at 60mHz, so I think it may be a "glitch" or something. It will still work and still look the same. I think mine runs at 51mHz and it looks the same as at 60mHz.

save the generated xorg.conf from nvidia settings somewhere, then simply copy the display/video section from there into the original xorg.conf and comment out the old part.
