After some recent update on Gnome 3.14, when connected to an external screen through an analog interface and EDID is not available, Gnome would think that 1024x768 is the highest safe resolution and decides for me it's safer to keep things that way. If I create a display mode with the correct resolution using xrandr and then apply it, Gnome would panic, trigger some kind of reset, and after heavy flicking I'm back to 1024x768 again. I also tried defining the desired resolution in a xorg.conf.d file. But Gnome does not like that for some reason. (Both works well in other DEs.)

How do I tell Gnome to stop this?

I'm escaping to XFCE for now.
