I haven't had good experiences with Ubuntu upgrading to the newest available release, but I was curious if I've just been unlucky. Two upgrades were semi-successful, with the system still running well; however the sound was broken both times. If you don't use Ubuntu, please state what distro it is.

going from 7.10 to 8.04 on the m1330 was flawless.
edit: just to clarify, the 1720 had a fresh install of 8.04 alternate and the vaio is running fc3. -
I've never upgraded and probably never will, a clean install is always the best way.

The biggest problem I've had is a printer driver needing to be reloaded.

i have been using ubuntu consistently since edgy, and everytime i upgrade, i have to change some of the ways i do things.
for instance, i got used to the way beryls options were and its plugins and then it changed to compiz. while they are similar, they arent identical IMHO.
so yeah, usually successful, but with minor issues to work out. the thing that is constantly so annoying is virtual machines with vmware. every upgrade breaks the current install, then you have to configure it again, but sometimes you need work arounds to get it to function.
How often is your distribution upgrade successful?
