I mean their chipsets, graphics, etc. Is AMD as well supported as Intel? :)

I know their graphics are always behind (driver wise) but they work. I remember this last Ubuntu update, it took forever for new AMD (ATI) graphics drivers to come out.

Hmm, actually I have heard that AMD has been releasing early drivers to Ubuntu releases. Good if you go Ubuntu, if you're looking at other distros you will wait longer. I've never had a problem with their drivers, though some complain about closed source.

Actually AMD stuff works really great as long as you dont run the most bleeding edge of linux.

AMD hardware is also supported better than Nvidia if you care about OSS support.

Thanks for the replies. I'm just seeing what's out there for AMD systems right now, but it might be neat as a secondary system. :)

To know for sure just check the DSDT Table in the AMD Chipset.
Check for a procedure call called OSI Linux if it is there the hardware developer knows Linux exist if not they probably don't.

Catalyst lags behind because they only release the driver corresponding to whatever is in the next Ubuntu release. I believe evergreen support just got put in.
