Trying to get my HP express card TV tuner to work, but mythTV has been impossible. I have no idea what it is trying to do. Both front and back ends were installed and it still says something about not able to log in and no uPnP backend found.

Weird...what am I to do to rectify the problem? I am very new at this stuff.

Have you run the mythtv-setup program? You need to configure a card before it knows what to do with it. That should get you going.

MythTV is not for complete newbies. After you install all the MythTV related packages, pretty much any guide should get you going. If you're getting lost on the beginner guides, perhaps you should look at something that holds your hand a bit more. Since it's free, MythTV doesn't have the resources to pay for TV listings and other things that you end up having to do manually.

Is there a more beginner-proof TV software? Something that will work with HP TV tuner express card.

Off topic. I notice my hard drive has been running constantly, What's going on with it? Is there a "task manager" that I can kill off some processes?

Inspiron 1318, just bought a few days ago.

You may consider something like motv, xawtv, kdetv, tvtime or me-tv (all in the Ubuntu repositories). They're all just TV applications, and don't have the full media center functionality of MythTV, I believe. If you have a question on another topic, start a new thread. Using the same thread for different things is considered bad form, and makes it difficult to follow discussions and search for stuff in the older threads that might answer your question (that's a BIG HINT, btw.)
