Ok, I downloaded the VMWare2 Player .rpm package from the site & converted it to .deb package. I installed the .deb package with no problem.
Now my problem is trying to get it to run. VMWare Player1 used "VMplayer" as it's run command. I tried doing that while making a Main Menu Icon for it and it didn't work.
Another thing is when I set command for "VMplayer" nothing happens. But if I try any other command, it says file not found. So I'm suspecting that maybe "VMplayer" is the right command but just not working for some reason.
Also the .deb package that I created is set to root as ownership. Meaning it has the red lock on top of the icon. Even though it let me install, would that mean that the files installed are locked?

Try running "VMplayer" in a terminal, it should give you some error message that might help explain things.

I tried that, no error message. Does the same as trying to run it from icon.

On my machine, the command is vmplayer (all lower-case) which resides in /usr/bin. It is a wrapper for the "real" binary.
But if you think it might be the package, it might be worth trying downloading the tar-ball and building it yourself.
P.S.: just got back from NYC in fact -
Good call jasperjones, it's key to remember that *nix systems are case sensitive (unlike Windows), and binaries are usually all lowercase)
Also, according to the Getting Started Guide, the command IS "vmplayer" (all lowercase), it also has instructions for installing via the tar-ball, which may give you better results than converting the rpm package. -
Yea, I did the been using the command in all lowercase. But I just may have to try the tar-ball solution. Something else for me to learn.
Thanks.
I need help with VMWare2 Player.
