Alright, so I'm probably going to pickup a used X41 tablet soon, and I want to know if anyone has any experience with it, and how well supported is it under linux?

    Thanks,
    Thomas :D

I've done a fair amount of googling but haven't turned up many recent results or anything, and as for distro, it shouldn't matter to much. Besides, probably going to put a custom version of my distro on there( RelaxOS). Might release that version as well if I iron out all of the issues :)

Everything should work fine, but to be honest the speeds I experienced weren't something I expected. On Linux the x41 feels like a turtle, on windows it will feels like a slug. I suggest you go for something a little more powerful or at least something that doesn't have a proprietary hard-drive so it'll be easier to upgrade. If you can afford it I heard the x300 was a good notebook.

My budget is about 150 bucks ;). Also, it actually isn't much slower than my current notebook, and I plan on building a custom edition of my distro for tablets/notebooks(low resource usage is a main point). :p

    I'm ordering it tonight:
    IBM X41 Tablet
    Pentium M 1.6Ghz
    1GB RAM
    60GB HDD

    :D

What DEs are you guys with older laptops running? I tried LXDE on my T41 and although I was so psyched about the potential of it, I find it buggy as heck.

Imho, it needs tons of work and the team working on it appears to be needing more resources and/or people.

I am now wondering if xfce is any good or whether Gnome would run okay.

I've tried KDE 4 before but it wasn't at 4.4 then. I am not sure whether it'd be too bloated but I suspect so. I like KDE generally and use it for the desktop but I figure it's been bloated since 3.5. Anyway, for a Centrino M cpu, 2GB of DDR RAM and an older video card (RV250 aka Radeon Mobility 9000), I was wanting a DE with a smaller footprint to at least make it seem as though my laptop was more snappy.

I'm discouraged with LXDE; I hope things improve with it.
