EDIT: just be cable connected and know your IP during the install....

And starting with Ubuntu, it takes longer to get to a state of awesome than it does if you start with Arch.

I never said Arch was more awesome. It's just easier to reach awesome with Arch.

I have used Linux Mint a lot and can assure you that your wireless will work. The possible exceptions are the usual suspects (hint: they usually start with the letter A). The forum is excellent and you be quick to get any help you need. I would recommend Daryna as it is tried and true. I have been playing with Elyssa (Mint 5) on my old machine, but it has some probs inherited from Hardy.

I highly recommend it. You will enjoy it a lot. Hope this helps.

    Here we go!

    Log1

I am in the process of getting familiar with Arch. Ran right through the installion disc with no problem (with new user, sound, video, xorg). However, I tried installing gnome but I am getting this error where it cannot locate gstreamer0.10-gconf nor is it in the database. I am currently installing gstreamer0.10-plugin, hoping that it will setup the .gconf file. BTW, I choose to install only the base package if that could be the problem.

But gsteamer are usually audio codec, I wonder why it need that to install gnome?

    Log2

It appear gstreamer0.10-plugins was not what I needed (I figure as much before installing). Gsstreamer0.10-gconf was not part of the -plugins. Reading the output carefully, gstreamer0.10-gconf is part of the gnome-media...which you can guess it... is not the database. Any suggestion?

Side note: I am running Arch in virtual box.

    Log3
Apparently, it appear that I needed to update "pacman" and change it over to the new repository with these command:

pacman -Syu #update pacman as a whole
pacman -Syy #switch pacman to the new mirror if any

    Log4

I have a GUI! I successfully have arch running in virtualbox. I am hoping that I can get everything running properly on the m1330. That will be the real test!
