Hi there, I just purchased a Fujitsu lifebook b-2154 off ebay and its arrived today.
I dont have any usb cd drives or usb floppy drives or anything like that
however i do have a 2.5" to 3.5" adaptor meaning i can connect the HD to my computer. Can I copy all of the linux files over to a folder called setup or something and run the installation process on the laptop?

You can just boot the linux live cd from the other computer and choose to install it on the external HDD.
In Ubuntu you'll have to click 'advanced' on the last tab and choose to install the MBR(Master Boot Record) on the external drive. -
Won't it install with the computers settings though? (configure itself to the specs of the pc)
-
No, it just includes whats needed for the particular hardware on boot.
Still has compatibility with, say ATI GPUs, even if you have a nvidia GPU -
Also, it isnt external, its basically internal (just happens to be a laptop hardrive) Will this affect it in any way?
-
Nope. Not at all.

Alright, another question. Theres been 3 main types of linux put on this model of laptop. none of which im familier with. and each i search for has like 5 different versions itself:
Debian
SuSE
Mandriva
Could you locate me one of these to download and burn to CD? -
Here's a torrent for Ubuntu 8.04.1. Just unzip and fire it up and let your torrent engine do the work.
