Right, this has probably been asked before but I'm not that patient and so can't be bothered trailing through loads of old posts.
So I've downloaded Kubuntu, burned the ISO as an Image onto a CD, inserted the CD into the drive on the computer I wanted to install it on and what do you know - nothing happened when I rebooted!!!!!
So I thought that this might be because the computer wasn't searching for a boot from the CD drive. And so I restarted again, pressed DEL to enter the BIOS and OMG it asked me for a password and I have never entered a password to get into the BIOS and yes I have been in the BIOS before to alter a few things.
So a) am I doing it right and b) if I am how do I get round this password.
Thanks so much in advance.

a) You are doing the right thing by going into the bios in order to set the priority for the boot sequence by choosing to check the CD/DVD drive first.
b) The method for resetting the bios password can vary greatly from one brand to another, so could you post your laptop information, ie, brand and model ? It would then be easier to recommend a proper procedure for resetting the bios password. -

Thanks so much for your help. It's a desktop. I think that the motherboard was originally from a tiny and the BIOS has not been upgraded since I salvaged the motherboard. Thanks again.

Well if it's a desktop, usually there are jumpers to short on the motherboard, but for that you have to check your motherboard owner's manual, it will show which one to short. You could also shutdown you computer, remove the battery for about 10 minutes, put it back and start your computer. Bear in mind that both procedure will reset your bios to it's default values, so any customization you did will be lost.

Right I made it so primary boot device was CD-ROM and that didn't work so then I changed it so that all 3 boots were from CD-ROM and it's still not working! What can I do???
