    ...Worked...

I have a question for Ubuntu. How come everytime I use the browser, it seems to browse REALLY slow. Not internet slow but frames slow. It looks like I am playing a video game with only 2 frames per second. Does any1 else have this problem?

i have this problem with Ubuntu 8.10, have you got the drivers up to date (or even have drivers) and have you got a dedicated graphics card?
the drivers for linux are normally much weaker than windows.

I believe Ubuntu uses the radeon-hd drivers for those cards. Do you get some kind of error when you try to activate the driver through the Hardware Driver app?

Give it time, perhaps even a few minutes to complete. I have the ATI HD3470 GPU in my Sony SR290 running Ubuntu 8.10 x64 and installing the ATI restricted driver does seem to "hang" for awhile but it eventually completes.

Everything seems pretty snappy after that...

Okay, its activated but the flickering thing still happens. It really is distracting... Does any1 know how to fix it? EG. like it looks like the computer is super slow and in 2 frames per second everytime i move something across the desktop, surf the web, etc.

What does your xorg.conf look like? Under the device section it should show you what driver you are using.
