Installing Ubuntu 7.10 Linux on Aspire 5315

Yesterday i have successfully installed Ubuntu 7.10 on my new Aspire 5315, but some issues came up, which i need some help with.
I'm a newbie to Linux, so i would really appreciate detailed answers or some links to manuals, articles etc.
I have two problems right now:

1) Sound doesn't work. In lshw output adapter is present as:
*-Multimedia
description: Audio device
product: 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio controller
But there is simply no sound. Don't even know what to do with this...

2) WiFi doesn't work. I have found some info ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessTroubleShootingGuide) and figured out that wifi adapter isn't recognized as wireless network device (iwconfig command shows nothing). However, adapter is present in "lshw" command output as:
*-Network UNCLAIMED
description: Ethernet controller
product: AR5006EG 802.11 b/g Wireless PCI Express Adapter
vendor: Atheros Communications, Inc.

There is such page: http://madwifi.org/wiki/Compatibility/Atheros#AtherosAR5006EG which sais there is something special about this particular adapter...

Any ideas anyone?
