I am just now seeing some press about Intel's Clear Linux distribution - https://clearlinux.org/ I'm not ready to move on past Linux Mint by any means, but found this release a bit interesting.
Also, here's some press about the distribution:
Meet The Linux OS From Intel That’s Beating Windows 10 And Ubuntu — On AMD Hardware
- Looking for a Linux distribution that’s performance-optimized for your AMD processor?
- In a recent battery of benchmarks performed on a $199 laptop from Walmart, Ubuntu proved 15-percent faster than the default Windows 10 installation, but then Clear Linux blew both Ubuntu and Fedora out of the water.

Same concern with any OS... evil is evil no matter who is committing the sin. But, Linux having telemetry is super-disappointing, like a school teacher or priest committing armed robbery or rape. You expect more from some folks based on their reputation or vocation. We've come to expect total nonsense from crApple and Micro$lop, which makes their frequent crimes and infractions slightly less appalling. We shouldn't tolerate that kind of crap from any of them. Bastards.
That's in the same league of cuckoo as the above-quoted scenario. -
Yes, all true and accurate. It's only the irony of the statement that is cuckoo. Just as it would be if someone made a statement that NVIDIA intentionally optimized something for AMD graphics performance. If the statement conveyed that it was optimized for x64 performance that would have not sounded weird. The fact that either competitor might develop new technology or optimize an element existing technology to serve their own interests, but would also ultimately be beneficial for hardware sold by a competitor, doesn't seem strange and it would not be out of the ordinary.Last edited: Mar 5, 2020

Indeed, cooperation and collaboration are very common in technology. It has many positives. Cooperation doesn't always result in a win, but it certainly does some of the time. It also has the potential to lend itself to conspiracies and machinations that help shape the tech world in ways that manipulate things to their benefit as co-conspirators. Cooperation can also lead to anti-trust violations and anti-competitive arrangements within an industry, and push out innovators that are not "team players" with the self-anointed brain trust looking to call all of the shots.Kyle, Vasudev, inm8#2 and 1 other person like this.

I played around with this distro about 6-8 months ago. It was extremely difficult to get GPU (GTX1070) support for; it reminded me of the old problems Linux had with Nvidia proprietary drivers a few years back. Also, support for most applications is not great either. I commented as much on the r/clearlinux subreddit and made contact with one of the developers.
I don't believe your conspiracy theories concerning Intel are correct on this count. Clear is being put together by a very small team with limited resources. I could be wrong, but my experience with it didn't point to anything nefarious, just incomplete. -
Not really looking as LMDE & MX seem to be working fine on these old Toughbooks.
I'll give it a go and let you know...theZoid likes this.
