Should I start using BSD, I'm afraid it will die

It not dead. It's not mainstream enough. That's why it's only spoken off in certain circles. It is ranked 99th on Distrowatch though.

Not dead at all. Living strong is what it is. Yahoo and many others use it on their servers. There's also a desktop community.

Netcraft has confirmed that BSD is dying for at least the last 10 years.

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.

"Dying" in terms of mainstream use. It's very subjective. Fortran and B could be considered "dying", not dead.

haha...fortran...I had one semester of fortran in college...lot of good that did....lol (I was a business major...we all complained why the heck the instructor was teaching us fortran in an information technology class!) Didn't know that was still around.

So BSD, like Fortran, is probably only used by a very small group of people. Dying, not dead.

Good :D Beware of its bootloader.

FreeBSD is ranked 12 by Distrowatch, ahead of Slackware, Gentoo and Kubuntu. Presumably they'll all die first :p :p

Also, I'm pretty sure OSX relies on BSD for some of its code, even nowadays.

It will make Linux seem like windows as far as general compatibility....that is, once you use BSD for any length of time...you might try OpenSolaris...they've got the multimedia situation taken care of now as far as easily installing codecs.

I find it funny that sun solaris won't run on sun virtualbox.
