I want to install linux on my nc8000, dual boot with windows. I might later want to erase linux. Is there any way to do this ? Apart frm reinstalling ?

One option is to do a disk image now I believe.

Sure, you can combine partitions and any partition manager software should be capable of doing so. Generally I use the built-in partitioner in ubuntu installation itself to both create or combine partitions. You can also use the gparted live CD or any other partitioning software.

If you have Vista installed then the default Vista disk manager is also capable of extending the Vista partition.

It's not really combining, it's deleting one and expanding the other to take it's place.

    yes you can do that.

but in my experience be very careful when it comes to removing ubuntu...

are you using grub as your boodloader? or is vista managing the booting?

you may need to do the fixboot / fixmbr from the windows recovery console after you've removed ubuntu
