I've looked through the stickied posts at the top and didn't see anything. Does anyone know of a similar program or an easy way to do what Hotspot Shield does in Linux? One of the reason I recently bought my little Dell D410 was so that I could take it where ever I went and take advantage of all the free wifi hotspots out there. But if I don't have a secure connection I am VERY limited in what I feel comfortable doing in those places, don't want no strangers sniffing me ;)

Here is what Hotspot Shield does.

I really want to move from XP to Linux on this machine but the inability to securely surf at free wifi places kind of kills the deal.

    Thanks!

Firestarter. Im not sure if the originator still updates the software...but it would be pretty close.

Thanks, went and took a look but this doesn't appear to do VPN so don't think it would give me the security I am looking for (a sniffer grabbing the flow from laptop to router).

Well certainly not easy but may be an option. This doesn't look toooooo bad.

http://openvpn.net/index.php/documentation/miscellaneous/static-key-mini-howto.html Has anyone set up something like this for secure wifi-ing from hotspots? One disadvantage is it relies on a relatively unreliable server connection (cable modem). One reason I may want to wifi is my home internet connection may be down, this wouldn't work in that instance. I probably will give this a try though.

    Thanks!

There's surely enough sniffers using linux at hotspots....I'll look this one up myself as I'm in need of something of the same.
