I have this bug where the machine won't shutdown or reboot. I'm using Xubuntu x64 now. Removing the splash option from Grub solved it though...I changed nothing else...boots so fast it doesn't matter anyway, but still.....anyone else experience this?

weird... the only problem i had with shutting down was because of some issue with alsa and network connections... first with intrepid and then in alternate install jaunty.

Very weird I had a issue the computer will not shut down fully and I had to add some lines of code to repair it during shut down.

did your computer enter a kernel panic on the shutdown splash image?

On mine only after shut down, i will get the Ubuntu splash screen as it was shutting down. When it was done, it was just a black screen. it will do nothing but now its fixed followed a guide that basically killed my wireless and hardwire Ethernet before shutdown.

Ubuntu 9.04 x64 does this on my VAIO SR290. It's been hanging on shutdown (for me) since the beta release. Or, I should say, it used to do this...until I removed it! 8.10 worked just fine, but 9.04 not so much. I subscribed the bug report you linked to back in April.

I'll try again when Karma reaches alpha 5 or 6... :)

yeah...removing splash from the boot options in grub cured it...I'm subbed also to the bug report. it boots so fast it really doesn't matter, but it always seems like there's some bug like this in 'buntu....I almost wish they'd slow down their release cycles. I'm waiting on Slack 13 anyway :D

Nope, I haven't noticed it, although it does hang a bit at login.

Wicd was causing this....went back to network manager and it stopped (Ubuntu 9.04) :)
