I was tempted to post a "meh, that's kommon knowledge" type response but Frozentech's list is actually extremely handy for new users looking into the whole linux thing.
-
They even have a BeleniX OpenSolaris link. Which I know absolutly nothing about. But I'll give it a try on Virtual PC

ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
There is also a Windows XP Live CD. I downloaded it a while back ago but never used it.

hey tedj are you on the misticriver forums as well???

LFNYC, that Belenix is rather interesting... I had a quick play with it when it was bundled on a Linux Format magazine coverdisc a few months back. Previously, I hadn't played with Solaris for nearly 10 years. -
I am quite interested in Linux, for rockbox pruposes... but I'm complete Linux Noob
What would you recomend that list is massive
a nice Ui would come high on my list, as would games and running from my H300 if possible would be cool -
I'll probably sound like a scratched record saying this, but if you're interested at looking at linux then Ubuntu is hard to beat. A good liveCD with HDD installation if you decide you like it, combined with an excellent online user community makes it an excellent distro for new users.
Once installed, Ubuntu has access to a massive amount of software via their online repositories. -
BackTrack is very usefull if you like free internet

I had a bad experience with Fedeora 2 & Grub loader awhile back.
Ubuntu seems much more user friendly tho, but I still hesitate to install. -
1. xp
2. vista (oh yes, i m triple-booting on my 80gb5400rpm) ; if no vista then skip this step
3. a FAT32 partitionfor file sharing between windows and linux
4. gpart tool to create a reiferts partition (or ext3 if ubuntu) i have mine at 12gb
5. gpart tool to create a linux-swap partition (i keep mine at 3gb)
6. linux installation, take the default settings, just follow the instruction
by triple-booting, it 1st comes up with either linux or windows - default linux if nothing is being chosen
if choosing windows, one then have the choice of vista or "previous windows version" (xp)
cheers ...
