    I've heard that AIGLX doesn't run on the new ATi cards? We're stuck using Xgl or something. Would be good when ATi update their drivers and we can play games AND have an accelerated desktop.

    LIVEFRMNYC: Did you read this bit in the article?
    Sounds like you won't be able to run it. You've got way too new of a card to have open-source ATI drivers running on it.

    You can, however, get a kanotix live cd, enable unionfs, compiz and then install ati/nvidia drivers. All live and play with xgl. I have done it. It was fun.

    Beryl/AIGLX only supports nvidia at the moment. ati support is in the works. ATI users, such as myself, are stuck with compiz/xgl.

    Yea guys, I feel like a idiot!! Got excited to quick.

    But the site stated that I could install and download the drivers. I just can't use XGL on Live CD.

    I installed, Loading the Kernel takes twice as long as Ubuntu or Suse.

    I couldn't try downloading the driver because Kororaa has some serious password issues. I installed twice, set all passwords very carefully and it still won't work. Only the log-in pass works but the administration pass doesn't, and I need it to work in order to change Wifi & ethernet info.

    I give up!!!

    Well I'm going to try the newest mandriva. If not worthy, then it's back to the good & stable Ubuntu. Has anybody tried Ubuntu beta?

    I'm pretty sure that AIGLX just doesn't work with closed-source drivers at all right now. I had to use Xgl on my new laptop with a GeForce 7200, but my older one with a Radeon 9600 using the open-source drivers can use AIGLX (and only AIGLX, not Xgl, incidentally). An Intel 915 integrated graphics laptop I tried had the option of using either, and worked fine with AIGLX.

    AIGLX works fine with nvidia's drivers. I do this on my desktop at home with a GeForce4 Ti. It does require the most recent nividia driver, though. Go see here for how to do this with Kanotix LIVE CD: http://kanotix.com/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-21468.html

    Yeah, I hate having to say that my graphics card is too new. I have to wait for ATi to catch up.

    I had problems with qtParted in both the 5.10 and 6.06 versions of Kubuntu. Works fine if you want to nuke your drive, but crashes to desktop if you try and manually change the partitioning scheme.

    Almost. If you're using the post 9625 nvidia drivers with compiz or beryl, then you're system is not using AIGLX, even if you have it turned on in xorg.conf (which you shouldn't). See;

    http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=996264&postcount=28
    or
    http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=77030

    A sort of related discussion is also available at;

    http://principe.homelinux.net/

    So Linux folks can use Xgl and compiz/beryl with Intel and nVidia, (I didn't know about no ATI support btw), or compiz/beryl with the latest nVidia drivers..

    Hmm, that's a lot of reading and I'm short on time. Could you summarize for me?
