Last night I gave Kubuntu 8.04 a spin on my refurb Dell D410 (Intel wireless). I tried to enter the network settings in the network manager but it never would connect (unbroadcast SSID and WPA). When I gave up and booted back into the installed XP the wireless wouldn't work. Went into the hardware profile and it said the wireless driver was corrupt. I asked it to roll back to the previous driver and everything worked fine again. Is it likely the Kubuntu somehow caused my wireless driver in XP to become corrupt? Anyone else ever have this happen with a 'buntu? Ubuntu worked fine the other night.

    Thanks!

No, it is not likely that Kubuntu would do that.

    I've never had that problem.

Did you install Kubuntu to your HDD, or just run the LiveCD? If you installed it to your HDD, did you maybe resize a partition or something, and maybe delete some files by accident?
If it was just the LiveCD, there is no way it caused any issues.

Nope just the live CD. I've done a dozen installs probably, several of them dual boot, I'm not an expert but I do have a pretty good idea what I am doing. Wasn't sure if maybe the Live CD went in search of the driver on its own. I'll chalk it up to odd coincidence unless if happens again (and you know I'm just going to have to try it again to see if it does :D )

    Thanks!

Well I've tried it again, several times, and the problem never came up again. Not sure what happened to my wireless driver causing me to have to roll it back but doesn't appear it is a recurring problem with Kubuntu or anything else on my system. Actually dual booting with Kubuntu now (it barely edged out Mandriva) and everything is working fine on both sides.

I don't see anyway Kubuntu could do that really without operator assistance. Glad to see it's righted itself :D
