I have a feeling s**t is going to hit the fan sometime within the next year. Especially with GPLv3 coming out. Microsoft will have a hard time trying to prove copyright infringements while you have organizations within the federal government such as the FAA using Linux. It would be nice to see the code for Windows; then we could either prove what MS is saying or we could prove that MS has been using GPL code illegally for years.

It'd be nice if Microsoft stopped making accusations without showing any proof. It'd also be nice if Microsoft stopped complaining. They still have the stock share, they just don't realize that Linux is gaining fame because of all their mistakes. Show me the proof and I'll shut up, otherwise I think they are just being cry babies.

they make false accusations because it creates doubt among potential corporate customers of Linux solutions...

Big CEO Guy: "gee, I dunno about this Linux thing, what if we get sued?"

Microsoft Guy: "well, if you buy Windows, you won't have to worry about that!"

CEO: "sweet, let's buy 10,000 licenses for Windows..."

I see similarities between these patent agreements and the war in Iraq.

"Believe us, there really are WMDs in Iraq!"

lol yup both were statements made without proof

although the US did make proof of possibilities, they were far fetched and most had already or later on proven completely false and fabricated.

time will tell if microsoft will do the same.

LG paying them cuz of it is ridiculous, were they given proof or is this just precautionary.....

I don't really care what ridiculous deals are signed, as long as it does not become accepted "common knowledge" that Linux is illegal without Microsoft's blessing.

LG probably comes out ahead in the deal. See:

By what logic ? MS wanted something from LG. MS would have paid more if there were no potential patent infringement. Because of LG caving, MS got a discount on what they paid.
