For a netbook, I'm considering this system which has 2 gb ram as configured, before coupons I might find comes out to 557.00. Anyone see any glaring linux problems? I can't. Just double checking...the price isn't a lot above other netbooks comparing items.

Seems to be some confusion about the realtek audio, probably need to compile ALSA from source if you're not on Karmic... this thread also has details about the touchscreen, don't know if your config had that or not: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell-latitude-2100/9414-latitude-2100-ubuntu-linux-2.html
-
Heheh.....
Anyway, i don't think that the hardwares in the configuration may have compatibility issues with DEL-LUBU-9.1. Except that maybe the touch screen LCD might not work due to the lack of proper driver for it.
I also noticed that your "my accessories", the 6 cell batt... is it an additional batt or just an upgrade?
Here in Singapore, the hardware configuration is almost the same as what you have there except that our default Wifi card is the regular Broadcom 1397, and 3 cell batt with just DEL-LUBU-9.04 and 1G ram.
However, if i'm to upgrade on just the batt to 6 cells, with an additional purchase of 6 cell batt... it could easily hit the meter over SGD$650. With that price, there's a vast variety of selection else where on what other brands can offer with same or better(N280 CPU to point out) configuration. One such brand to mention is Lenovo s10-2 with additional 6 cell batt thats on offer now at SGD$600. -
Why the latitude? You can get similarly equipped netbooks for under $400
-
I guess it is possible that Zoid could be drawn to attention by these features/eye candies that are not present from other brand offerings...
1. Touch Screen LCD
2. Rubber sheet cover for robust mobility
3. Simple external look that makes it gives an impression to other folks that the 2100 is more like a business netbook
However, in comparison to the HP mini 5101 with business design look, same hardware specs and additional 6 cell batt. Dell is less pricier. -
yep...I really want an 2 gigs + intel wireless, I like dell support having my Precision m4400....looking at dell outlet, they're less there...also 12 inch Vostro from Outlet. But yeah, I've looked over ALL netbooks, even looked at Lenovo x200
-
well, can get the 2100 with Ubuntu 9.04 as above for around 453. before shipping
-
Factory installed Linux should be much more better than self installed Linux as we tend to screw up due to carelessness during driver installation...
But in some working environments, the use of Windows system is compulsory.
Sigh... confusion confusion. -
I'm looking at Asus UL20A also...should be up on GentechPC's site soon....just waiting to see what walks out of the dark corner for tomorrow's Win7 launch.....
But I definitely prefer the 2100 for a netbook at this point. At least Dell keeps tweaking their drivers and BIOS's.
-
the reference guide states that it does have 2 cores.
-
yeah....for pure linux netbook....2100 it is I guess...if I go higher I get into replacing my precision basically...
need a performance for the dollar gaming laptop for my son....any suggestions or deals you guys are aware of right now....believe me, I'm scouring the 'net....

this is pretty sweet....just got posted -

I'll check....he's a WoW fanatic along with some Half Life and Strat games....they seem to be getting cheaper and faster...
He's using my old Asus C90s now as his Asus A8js met a tragic death..... -

LOL, just found this thread again... There is now a driver for the Latitude 2100 "narc light" (wireless status LED on the top of the lid) in 2.6.34-rc called dell_led.
-

Yes unabashed gravedig, but it's for a good reason (google).
Here's a stripped down 2.6.34-rc4 .config I made for the Latitude 2100
