That's strange. I'm running 2.6.27 and have encountered absolutely no problems with my intel 5300 wireless. Could you post the link to the bug you talk about ? I'm curious.

Rognon,
Thanks for the xorg.conf. I only have the X4500HD, I do not plan to play any games and did not want to spend extra cash on the ATI card. I have one more question for you. After you placed your order how long did you have to wait to receive your thinkpad? I just ordered mine only 2 days ago and I am going nuts haha. -

Expected ship date December 1.
Ahhh....
So keep the compatibility comments coming. I anticipate running Ubuntu 8.10 and hope that the 5300 Wifi card configures easily. If not, hopefully the Ethernet will.
I'm also going with the Intel graphics H/W as I understood that should configure easily (and I'm not looking for gaming.)
best,

but the 2.6.28-rc6 is out so I need to try again

still, the panic is there...

Hmm. I'm starting to see a pattern here. Twice, X crashing made my intel graphics unusable. Even a reboot would not fix it (luckily, I've also got ati graphics). The problem got fixed the same way for both times and I must say that's pretty puzzling. Discharging the battery completely made my intel graphics work again. And when I say completely, I mean completely. The first time, I did not even have enough power to go into standby and the second time, I was not paying attention to the battery monitor and my computer just shut off.
Oh and here's a tip to greatly improve the intel graphics performances.
First, put those 2 entries in xorg.conf, in the Device section
Code:Option "AccelMethod" "exa" Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
Code:export INTEL_BATCH=1

I just want to let everyone who plans on installing Arch on a T400 know that I've started a page on the Arch Wiki. It's pretty much work in progress though.

Sweet!! My T500 ships on the 28th so I will def hit up the wiki.

Today, my intel graphics stopped working again. This time, it was not caused by a X crash. I fact, I don't know what caused it. Yesterday, when I turned my computer off, everything was working. Today, when I powered it on, I was greeted with a blank screen while trying to start X... -
Have you heard of anyone else with a similar problem? Also is the Intel driver any different in the testing repo?

Rognon,
Have a look at this thread bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=56804 (i cant post links yet so I took out the beginning of the link) I am not sure if it is the same problem that you are experiencing, but the patch in the thread seems to fix X from locking up. -
That has to be one of the most frustrating problem I've ever seen. -
That is rather strange. Hopefully I will not have this problem. I will be sure to update you once my T500 arrives.

I've just received my T400 today and installed Ubuntu 8.10. Unfortunatly the fan is running permanently with a hearable noise.
Is your fan running permanently as well? -
-
I'm running Ubuntu with the integrated graphics.
I used an HP nx7000 before and most of the time the fan was completely shut down. It only started when there was a high CPU load for some time.
When I check the CPU load of my T400 with the system monitor I see that the CPU load is most of the time very low (between 10-20%) and it never gets above 50%. Why is the fan running permanently with such a low CPU load? -
Hi!
I got this setup at work with a T500, a docking station, a 24" LCD and a 22" LCD. I'm running Debian 5 sid/squeeze and I've been trying to get both external monitors to work at the same time - with no luck. The 24" is connected to the docks DVI and the 22" is connected to the docks VGA.
When I run integrated (Intel only, using the intel driver) the DVI-port is not active at all. And from what I've heard it's not suppose to be - it's only meant for the ATI-card.
When I run discrete (ATI only, using the radeonhd driver) the DVI works, but I can't get xrandr to use DVI+VGA without them being cloned (although they use different resolutions - 1920x1200 and 1680x1050). Somehow xrandr seems to confuse the "PANEL" (internal monitor) and "VGA_1", and it acts up when I try to control them.
I've done a lot of testing back and forth, and it's hard to get all the details down at once here for you to troubleshoot with me, but I'm hoping someone have pulled this off already?
Can you help me out? Any hints appreciated! -
Not sure if this is still an active thread ...
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on a T400 and have serious problems with the video driver that hopefully somebody can solve for me.
The video driver ( that claims to be tested) for both this release as well as the prior 9.10 release simply locks my system at boot time. Something more than annoying.
I have no accelerated graphics and trying to get OpenGL up and running has been impossible.
I really like the T400 but the video thing is driving me nuts. I can't believe that I am the only person who is having this situation. Help would be dearly appreciated. -

I have an issue with Ubuntu and it's warmer than average right palmrest area. From what I've read it seems to spin the hard drive constantly. I do not like how it feels hot all the time. I wish they would get this problem under control.
