I think its time for Linux to get a new symbol, the Penguin has to go. Linux needs something more professional. Yes, I speak of Linux sacrilege. What are your thoughts.

I can't see anything wrong with Tux.

The company where I work has been through two rebranding exercise - I associate them with spin management consultants, and the only people who seem to benefit are them and the CEO.

FreeBSD for some reason moved from their brilliant original cartoon Beastie image to something that looks like it has been molded in jelly/jello (gelatin) dessert.

tux is a great mascot. He's even been revamped to a more web 2.0 look which exists along side the original rendering. It would be a sad day if tux were to "die"

Mmm, Yeah. You are sort of right... But he has been a mascot for ever now, and it would be hard to get rid of him. Even though I just started out in Linux, I do love him, very much so.

You just can't get rid of a mascot or branding label. Look what happen to Tropicana when they switched from their fancy packaging to the generic labels. They lost quite a bit of sales because of it. And on top of it all that stupidity cost them a couple hundred million IIRC.

Leave Tux alone it's a great mascot. :)

It's not as prominent as it used to be with all the distros having a symbol of sort of their own.

It's no worse than an apple or a flag with 4 coloured squares.

Linus, if you're reading this...it really was rather Cheeky of you naming the kernel after yourself.....glad I don't have to install the Stallix GNU Tools....LOL

But the penguin goes wayyy back....it would be sacrilege to change that...never happen.
