Yesterday I tried LPS "Air Force" linux on my Acer Travelmate Timeline X 8172 Z. It is running. WLAN (Broadcom 43XX?!) is supported. Used unetbootin to create the bootable USB drive. HowTo!

    Which notebooks are compatible, too?

The changelog says the current version uses kernel 2.6.27, so basically any notebook up to Core 2 generation should be compatible. If you don't need sound even 1st generation Core i notebooks should work fine. I don'tknow if that also goes for the 2nd generation.

    btw:
Where can I find the EULA (without downloading the whole ISO) and how do I obtain the source code of that distro?

I think that some 1st generation Core i notebook will have a hard time with 2.6.27. Some were only fully functional with 2.6.38.

I'm not surprised that any lightweight distro would use an old version of the kernel, since they all seem to. Nothing unexpected.
