I have 1 SSD. It is one large partition. I would like to shrink the partition and create a second partition to install Arch to. It's been a while since I played with Arch, but I would like to try it again. Especially since the T400s is supposed to be relatively linux friendly. Will the truecrypt pre-boot authentication mess with the windows mbr and linux grub relationship on boot? How can I do this successfuly?

Since TrueCrypt doesn't allow installing the bootloader to the Windows partition, it probably does alter the MBR. An alternative would be to install Grub to your Arch Linux partition and make the Windows bootloader chainload that. The downside would be that you have to enter your encryption password every time you boot, no matter the OS. EasyBCD should allow you to add an entry for Grub to your Windows bootloader.
