I know, but I'd like to have a single post on NBR for it.
-
Well, that is a lot of work my friend!
Another great site for this sort of thing is: http://linuxtracker.org/
Linux tracker has torrents for every distro which is often an easier way to get them, especially when they first appear. For example, if you try to download Ubuntu from the website it will take you forever, but if you start a torrent, you'll have it in no time. Also you can search for remixes and side projects associated with your favorite distro like the PCLOS Gnome project or Anti-X which is a fluxboxed version of MEPIS. -
I think it'll be a better idea to list some short pros and cons of different linux distros. Like:
Ubuntu: good for beginners that want their linux machine up and running in no time.
Mint Linux: based on Ubuntu, just as easy to get up and running as Ubuntu but comes with more support for video cards, mp3s, etc.
Slackware: distro closely relates to unix commands, good for learning unix and linux.
CentOS: Enterprise grade linux based on Red Hat with some cosmetic modifications
That would help a lot for anyone, not just new people, in finding what distro would be good for them in what situation.
Come to think of it, maybe it won't be a good idea to list it as pros and cons, it might cause a distro fightbut you get the idea.

Distrowatch does that for the major ones out there. It doesn't help though - IMO it just made my decision harder XD.
-
rofl, same here XD
I had to surf through a half-dozen sites which had reviews and critics on most distro's to finally decide myself on one. Though I agree a nicely built NBR review of Linux distro's would really kick some sweet bunions.
hell, if Thomas is up for it, I'd like to help out -
Anyone can help, just provide with a description and a download link

There's a guy from the UK, Dan, who has a nice blog where he reviews various distros from the standpoint of the average user. He's a little bit behind but there is a lot of good information comparing various distributions.

I've had that bookmarked for some time.

No, but I will.

If you do, tell me how it is. I've not listened to it.
