Has anyone here run into Input/Output errors when attempting to access Windows 10 files/ folders from Live boot USB ?
Any impressions as to whether it's a possible NTFS, or driver issue ? Or more likely possible hardware related?

    Any experienced advice appreciated

    Thank you

Ntfs-3g driver is included with most distros latest ISOs. Check if Bitlocker or any drive encryption is preventing R/W access.

    What are the errors exactly?

I don't think He enabled any disk encryption, but he may have run some unknow utilities on it (84 year old father in-law), but thank you for the suggestion.

I made the cardinal error of not taking a screen shot, but I will be trying a diff Linux distro soon and if I get same error I will definitely grab it.

Check out Elementary OS or Linux Mint. Also verify the checksum or hashes, if possible use a torrent since file corruption will be almost NIL on a torrent anyway.

If you're trying to access OS partition the most likely bitlocker as mentioned above.

pretty sure what it is is that when you turn windows off it doesnt actually turn off, rather it goes into some sort of hibernation. you can either disable this fully via regedit, or hold shift then press restart (on windows) and from that menu turn the pc off. then windows will "cold boot" and then youll be able to read write everything without any issues
