**This Is A Linux Install Issue**
I have an Asus G50V-X1 (The 'Best Buy' Model)
--
I've been using linux for a while now. I like to use linux on all my laptops, but this issue is vexing me at the moment:
I have tried, unsuccessfully, to install Debian Etch 4.0r3 from a 3-DVD Set, and OpenSuSE 11.0 from a DVD, as well. The problem is specific to the DVD drive not being recognized.
The occurs at the point in the linux-install process when the installers are trying to find a suitable DVD source for the install. Both Debian and OpenSuSE give me error messages stating that the DVD wasn't recognized.
I suspect it might be a hardware driver issue. It does, however, work flawlessly in Vista Home Premium, so I guess the drive must be really new and not on the general list of linux-supported dvd drives, yet.
Any assistance this might garner would be greatly appreciated.
(Note: I'm cross-posting this in the Asus G50V Owners Lounge, as well, so if it gets relegated to one or the other, I understand; no problem.)
Warm Regards,

Did you burn the DVD's yourself? I've seen problems when CD ISO's are burned to DVD's mistakenly. I'm surprised that they're somehow losing the DVD drive if they boot off of it initially... is the drive running in some kind of compatibility mode in the BIOS somehow?
