I'm looking for a small SSD to install Linux on, probably either Ubuntu or Mint. I'm wondering how big the installation size is? If I can get buy with a 8GB or 16GB, that'd save some money and I don't need much space. Thanks for any help.

I know Ubuntu 10.04 uses about 2.3GB, I can't remember how much it allocates for the swap file though.

The official system requirements for Ubuntu state 5GB for the OS, but I'm pretty sure it's not that much in reality for a base install.
The release announcement on the Linux Mint Blog says 4GB for Mint 10 Julia -
ZaZ: 8GB should be plenty for a usable Linux footprint on disk. A complete Ubuntu 10.10 install, with apps and all, occupies less than 3GB!

It looks like the 16GB will have to do. I need the install and my Mp3s, which are about 4GB. Thanks for the replies.
