Well I downloaded the Ubuntu livecd and then burned the file onto a data disk, changed my bios to be cd/dvd/cd-rw at the top of the list, and de-activated my hard drive, and it does not recognize the cd. Did I make it wrong?

yes, you did. you burned a data disk of the iso. You need a program like nero that opens the iso and burns. In nero, file>open>pick file>burn

the windows built-in burner doesn't have the capibilities of buring iso extensions. You must have a burning program like Nero, or you might google iso burner for a program. I use Nero and love it.

A very good free iso burner is BurnCDCC from terabye. Very small and nice utility. Even doesn,t need to install. Try it.
