Nice! Linux Mint with Cinnamon is my hands-down favorite. It's truly awesome and I wish Linux offered enough functionality (by my definition) to kick Micro$loth to the curb and knock all of their teeth out... then maliciously fracture their metaphorical skull, just for spite, because they deserve it for making Windows 10 such a pathetic pile of digital trash.

I don't think Linux can match the user base and ease of use documentation offered by MSFT. MSFT is forgiving these days when drivers cause crashes while Linus will bash any under-performing or borked driver from even running on Linux.
I want nvidia to embrace/merge their driver source to Linux Git tree then finally I can have native nvidia driver working out of the box.

I agree. I do not believe Linux or Mac OS will ever come anywhere close to the market share held by Windows. They are miles and miles apart in that respect. I don't know anyone that actually hates Linux per se, but there is a lot of hate and animosity for Mac OS X and Apple hardware that is jusitied.

Macs aren't optimised as everybody think it is. The Apple EFI holds back most power of CPU and GPU to prevent meltdown.
Windows is superior to OS X in every way. Even I recently optimised Linux as a test to get Macbook like battery life. Unfortunately, Dell EC prevents me from getting full control on Linux. I get 8hrs on battery on Linux using iGPU and 2-3 hrs on dGPU. If I can successfully set undervolt that stays permanent in Linux I can get another 1-2 hrs on battery. Its close to AW battery spec. of 10.5 hrs on 92Wh.

Yeah, the only nice thing I can say about any Apple product is my employer-provided iPhone has a better camera than my Android phone. But, it sells for 300% more and sucks overall, so the camera is not compelling enough that it would ever be a reason in and of itself for me to ever be willing to buy one. The iPhone fanboys at work said iOS would grow on me and I would learn to love it, but about 5 later I hate iPhone more than ever. It has to be the most lackluster and boring tech device that I have ever used. Even more so than the disgusting Lenovo T430 Thinkpad pile of trash I have to use every day for work. Both items are overpriced garbage that offer absolutely nothing of value to my experience of using them. Both are truly pathetic devices, from first impressions forward... End-to-end sucky products, but at least it wasn't my money that got wasted, LOL.

Apple phones are good only for people who aren't knowledgeable about tech and similar stuffs. I used iphone 7 for a day and it failed to sync my outlook contacts from my lumia. I suddenly switched the phone off and gave it to my mom. Apple Stock camera is worse these days and had to use Microsoft Pix app for best camera quality. iTunes mobile app is major headache for my mom since the UI is confusing. Groove music isn't available in India otherwise I'd have removed all Apple apps.

Off topic but, I just got the Kyrocera E6810 dura phone. Great camera, good phone and audio, great display and video and durable. Same phone for my daughter and no more army tank case required for her. I get 5 plus days on a charge ( just use it as a phone and low usage. For $400 I can't complain at all.

On topic I would love to see Linux spank Windows 10 in the market. It may never happen but we all can wish. :)

Which is that phone? All I see is a flip phone with a symbian like OS. $400 is too much for that flip phone unless you collect antique phones.

google Duo is supported and comes with app on stock ROM. Phone is simply rugged and seems like my type when my lumia dies.

I am not a web on the phone user, my daughter is. She loves this compared to the Razr Max HD we used before. That too was a 5 day battery but this is so much better. It is heavy because of the battery but that is the price you pay for long battery life.

True, it has a place for that reason. And, it shows by looking at the user base in general. But, the unfortunate downside to that is, as long as they continue to use it they will be low-level techtarded noobs that rely on tech designed for dummies just to get by.

Athough I have no reason to believe it can or will happen, I will still be wishing that at your side. There have to be some good reasons to care about the future of PC technology, and Windows 10 damned sure isn't one of them, LOL.

As extravagant as I like to be with PC hardware, I simply cannot bring myself to pay more than about $200 for any phone no matter how nice it might be. Even spending $100 on one makes me feel sick to my stomach for a day or two.

I'm really happy with my ZTE Blade X Max. I got mine on sale several months ago for under $200 and now Cricket has the Blade X Max for $99 (Black Friday sale ends tomorrow). With an octacore CPU and nice 1080p screen, the price is definitely fantastic. This phone has worked flawlessly for me since day one. The only thing I don't like about it right now is I cannot find a way to root it. Once I have root, I think it will be perfect, especially for the price. The camera is OK, but there is no way I would pay more just for a better camera. I'd rather spend the money on a real digital SLR camera than a phone with a better camera, but I'm not interested in spending money on a digital SLR camera either. If I had the money for that, I would spend it on PC component upgrades instead.

Me neither. While I do it some when a computer is not within reach, definitely not ideal. I find web browsing and email on a phone to be a fairly miserable experience overall and if I do it for too long it sets the stage for me to have a bad day because after a while it starts making me frustrated. Screen is just way too small to enjoy it, and even more than that, touchscreen input starts to make me feel like I need to be violent after about 20 to 30 minutes of using it. I despise using touchscreens even more than the tiny phone display. And, while mine is among the largest displays available on a phone it is still too small to be thrilled about using it.

If I do connect to wifi and email sync and app updates my phone lasts for exactly 2 days. With strict usage, wifi connected occasionally I get 5-6 days of battery with 5-6% battery left on W10 mobile.

I use my phones similar to PC. I prefer using AC power and limit my time running on battery to only doing so when AC power is unavailable. That's one reason I don't really care much about battery life on a laptop or a phone. It's just not very important to me. Now, what that actually translates to is that I almost never, under any circumstances, run a laptop on battery. My phone is running on battery about half the time, but only because a wall outlet isn't movable or wireless. Whenever a phone charger is within reach (AC or DC) and I am stationary I have it connected to external power. And, it is often turned off when I don't need to use it. I can always return a call whenever I feel like it, if I feel like returning the call, and the stupid supply of notifications drive me nuts. Constantly having to disable notifications, or mute them, and deleting emails synced on the phone that I don't want to read or re-read is just an extra hassle. And, yes... the fact that Windows 10 and modern browsers have location and notification feces drive me nuts as well. I don't want to be notified about anything, ever... especially if it involves social media. If I ever care, I will manually log into whatever account and go looking for new information. Most of the notifications are for stupid stuff that I don't care about, and it's impossible to keep them all turned off forever on every platform. If you use a better OS, like Windows 7, then it is a little bit easier to only have the browser filth to deal with.

For me battery life matters the most you'll never when you don't have power supply for like 5-6hrs or even a day. Even an inverter lasts only a day.

I am sure it would matter to me if I had that situation, but I seldom do. My wife leaves her phone on battery all the time, and when she needs to use it the battery doesn't have much juice left. Mine is almost always fully charged. Same with her laptop. And, I won't even move my laptop to another room for a few minutes without an AC adapter. I think the last time I used a laptop on battery for an extended period of time was maybe 5 or 6 years ago. I was traveling on business and the airport power went out due to a storm. I had no option other than to use the battery. Thankfully, it was an M18xR2 and had about 6 hours of battery runtime available on iGFX with the LED lighting turned off and the power saver ThrottleStop option enabled. I was able to use it as long as I wanted to at the airport and on the plane.

I just installed linux mint 18.3, dual booting w/ W10. It tells me it's running in software rendering mode... I don't know why. I downloaded nvidia drivers (took close to 1 hour for some reason) and then got an error when trying to run the install. What am I doing wrong?

Did you download .run file or deb files? Before that, try installing CPU microcode package for AMD/Intel.
