I have been lurking this forum for a few days, and linux seems to be very interesting. My xps 1730 is fried, and I plan on buying a xps 15 from dell, but in the meantime I am looking at getting a IBM thinkpad T41p as a stopgap measure. The model I am looking at does not have an OS installed, can I boot from a disk and install linux mint, or do I need an OS already installed to install linux mint?

    Thanks!

You can boot from an optical disc.
