With the Apple OS, the track pad can tell when it's the ridge of your thumb hitting the pad while typing or if it is actually a finger gesture. How is it with Linux? If Linux can't tell the two, is it easier to accidentally move the pointer on the screen from the ridge of the thumb or palm while typing?
