Hello, just new to this forum.
I have an question about the bios of the nc4400.
After installation of Debian Etch I'm not able to login in the bios anymore with F10.
I installed Debian Etch (netinst on a usbstick) as the primary OS, no dualboot.
With the HP recovery dvd's, i can restore windows xp and after that i can enter the bios during the boot with F10.
Is there a solution for this problem?
HP nc4400 T5600
Thx,
Johan

If you've got XP on there now, I would suggest that you attempt to update your BIOS to the latest version and then try again. Keep in mind though that HP does not officially support Linux on most of their computers (though they offer some with Red Hat strangely...), so this may be causing issues.

Sorry, i forgot that in my first post, i have the latest bios version,
for the nc4400.
F.08 - 02/05/2007 -
Sorry, i forgot that in my first post.
I have the latest bios version:
F.08 - 02/05/2007 -
The workaround i found, is to disconnect AC / battery power en switch on the power button for +/- 10-20 sec.
After that boot and the F10 function works, and i have access to the bios. -
Found a better one, to edit a extra line in the halt and reboot script in init.d
/sbin/modprobe -r psmouse

All HP Core Duo business notebooks require the loading/unloading of the psmouse module and compiling that as a kernel module or else the ACPI state will become bad and you get those random characters at boot, followed by a locked BIOS.
I've included the halt and reboot scripts I use on my nc6400 for anyone who might be interested.Attached Files:
