    1] We hope so! :D
2] You mean to Dualboot? Yeah you can do that. You can't login to both operating systems at once :p
3] You can use Wine to emulate windows apps; but not all of them work 100%. A lot of them have linux alternatives though. As for games - there are games for Linux; and there are some games that can be emulated through wine.

Hope that answered your questions :p And feel free to ask more, if you'd like :D

1- You will have to choose a specific distribution so we can give you specific instructions

    2- Dual boot or virtualization?

1- Download and burn the Ubuntu ISO
2- Be sure you have free space on your HDD so you can create appropriate partitions for Linux
    3-Boot with Ubuntu LiveCD
4-The partitioning can be done with Ubuntu installer
5-At the end of the process, the installer will install GRUB (a bootloader) so you'll be able to boot Windows or Linux every time you start your computer

Latest distros come with Compiz Fusion (in Ubuntu the effects are really easy to activate: System --> Preferences --> Appearance --> Desktop effects)

    wine isn't an emulator.

The short answer to this question is no. There are apps like wine that allow you to run Windows apps and Games in Linux. For example I run WoW through wine and for some reason it runs better than on WIndows. A lot of ppl report this although it's not true for all apps.

What would you like to run from Windows anyway ?

I really like this MEPIS distro, but getting it to run wireless with an intel 4965 is a nightmare....or have they imbedded that yet? I've only found Ubuntu so far to use it OTB. Scoober...you're running this on a desktop, right?

EDIT: I've found Mandriva 2008 (one) will recognize the card, but getting full internet acess is difficult (for me).

EDIT again: Fedora 8 Gnome works beautifully with everything ..... :D

compiz is great, but it doesn't (usually) work unless restricted drivers are used for the video card. Depending on the distro you use, you might also have to install the gnome-compiz-manager package.

Although I haven't tried it yet, I've heard that VirtualBox works great for XP/Vista and running games/applications/etc. It's also free.

Yeah, I'm running Mepis on my old desktop, and will be putting it on my new notebook when I get it. It looks like I may be looking forward to some manual configuration for my Intel wireless card, which I don't mind, as long as it works.

I've been told this is an area that the developers of Mepis are working on to improve, so it should be just a matter of time until wireless support is more complete.

I'll be sure and post when I get my new notebook, with how it all goes.

Can you also do that through a memory card? I'd like to have Ubuntu on a bootable memory card so that I could boot from either one of my thinkpads.

Do not recommend, install, or in any way use ImgBurn. It makes registry entries and changes without permision, changing file associations, and more. It's a real mess.

You should recommend and use BurnCDCC instead. It works great, and doesn't violate your system.

Here's where you can obtain it.
