I am planning on running a linux program in virtual box just for fun. I wanted too mess around with it and see how it is. I was planning on doing Arch Linux for a good challenge. I have a few generic questions though.
What can Linux do that W7 or macs can't (if it is particular to one distro thats fine)
What have you guys heard about Arch linux, or for the people who have used it, how did you like it?
And any general comments or on the linux or running it in virtual box. I have yet to learn any of it yet.

Learning it in virtualbox should be painless. Just make sure to install the guest additions.

Have fun!

Sweet thanks.

Try Archbang Linux for a really interesting take on Arch. It is one of m favorite distros and I use it on my older Clevo.

If you're up for the challenge with Arch Linux you might have fun trying out Gentoo or Linux From Scratch afterwards, but it's okay if it puts you off, Arch Linux isn't the only Linux distribution out there, even if you decide Arch Linux isn't for you, there is always Ubuntu or Linux Mint for you to try. One step at a time though, I'd like to hear how you like Arch.

Ubuntu has gone downhill lately, and it's only getting worse. For a starter, Arch will be... interesting to say the least. I use Linux for its intended purpose (servers), not as a daily desktop OS, but if you don't use any Windows-specific applications you may end up using it as your primary OS. I'm not so lucky, i need a lot of stuff that depends on Uncle Bill's OS.
Personally, i have an aversion against the default Linux fonts and rendering method, so i install MS fonts if the Linux i use has a GUI. Blasphemy i know... but it ends up looking great. -

Need little help and a quick response if possible. I was going through the installation of the os and I did in wrong.... Stupid mistake. Anyway, I proceeded to delete the file in virtual box. I started to make another and it said I could not because it was already created. So this leads me to believe that that partition was still there. How to I delete it so I can start from the beginning? Thanks. Also, how much space do you think I should give it. Virtualbox recommended 8, but the tutorial I have been watching gave it 15. Here is the first video of the tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgbgYqLwDf0&feature=channel_video_title. If it helps, I only got 5 min in and I started to split up the partition. Which I did wrong lol Thanks...
Update, It says I cannot create it because the title is already in the users/virtualboxVM file. I can delete that, but will the partition still exist? -
Delete the Arch config file in the "Machine" folder and try again?
-
Edit, Can anyone tell me if I was able to delete it for good? -
It has been more than 24 hrs. So i am bumping this, does anyone know if my partition is completely gone so I do no have to deal with it later?
-
If you want to be sure, create a new hard disk for your machine or a new machine altogether... Don't get held up by something silly
-
Why not boot up a gparted liveCD and look for yourself? -
Because I don't know what that is. What is a gparted live cd?

I am honestly going insane. Because it is on a VM, I do not have internet connection and apparently I skipped that step... So I am trying to post on the linux forums and guess what? I can't register because they ask a question that can only be done on a command prompt. So, I thought, no big deal. Until I realized I can't copy paste... Or don't know how to (which I was also going to ask on the forums). So I started typing it in, until I realized that there is no key on my keyboard for the straight line symbol. So I cannot even register on their forums to ask how to copy and paste so I can post on their forums... Need some help before I get really pissed off and dish the whole frustrating project.
Need to change my title now lol. -

Yes that symbol, it is not on my keyboard.
-
to get the "|" you have to press 'shift' and that key, at the same time of course. -
shift + \ = |
it is probably not labeled on your keyboard...
Also, whenever I set up a machine using virtualbox, the default is for the virtual machine to have a network adapter... -
Might not, but why does it matter? Was it difficult to make in the first place?
Linux for fun
