    I need help.

I need to install ubuntu in this laptop, without messing with vista and acer bootloader, I had searched on google for a HOW TO without success, If somebody knows how to do it, please... I need your help.

I did installed Ubuntu before and the ALT F10 stop working, the recovery DVD did not work. I dont have a copy of Vista instalation to fix the vista bootloader if something goes wrong, I only have the recovery disks. :(

On my Acer laptop 5102 Alt F10 restores the one section of hard drive to factory initial setup condition. The other section is left untouched so data saved like music files, pictures etc is left untouched. If you removed the sections on the hard drive then you can't use this restore function any more

ALT F10 triggers the recovery partition, if something goes wrong thats the solution.

When you install Linux, it will install GRUB the boot loader in the MBR ( master boot record) unless you tell Linux to write GRUB somewhere else. In my old laptop with Windows XP, this was easy to fix, but in my new laptop once Linux writes the GRUB to the MBR, that's big problems. The recovery cds will not work, the partition will not work because the vista bootloader will be overwritting. I mess with one computer allready. I learn my lesson so I did my homework and today after 3 night :D of hard work reading and reading finally
i know how to install Linux without messing with my laptop bootloader:tongue: :twitcy: :notworthy:

    I used 2 programs:
    DISKSAVE from microsoft
    easyBCD 1.7

Once you learn how to use this programs installing linux in a ACER laptop is easy.

IF YOU DECIDE TO INSTALL LINUX... PLEASE DON'T LET LINUX WRITE THE BOOTLOADER TO MBR(MASTERBOOT RECORD) WRITE IT TO THE MAIN LINUX PARTITION.

Yes it's possible to install the bootloader to a partition. You should have asked before ;)
