You won't actually install Linux in another partition - you'll run it in a virtual environment. There are a few apps that do this: VMWare and Virtualbox are only two of them. If you spend some time looking around, you should find a few threads where people asked the exact same question.

i understand that but i mean i have another partition to store it in and i want to run it from there so i don't waste space on this partition when saving.

which dist do them emulators use and which dist is best? i don't want it bigger than 500mb download also.

You can run linux in a virtual machine, but I personally wouldn't bastardize linux by surrounding it with a rogue windows environment. It's just not pure :D :D Got enough HD space? Dual boot it...you'll be glad you did. Plenty of help around these parts for doing that.

you can try VirtualPC (M$), WMwareServer beta (it's free) or VirtualBox....I like VirtualBox the best....all free. It's a good way to learn something about linux, you can always zap it easily if you want to dual boot down the road. So yes, good idea.

What it does really is chooses the features from different OSes & chooses the best out of them :)

If you install Ubuntu & it get stuck at 82% you can try the alternative disc(it should eventually move from 82% though). It just takes along time to scan the mirrors, even with no internet connection...
I recommend Zenwalk or openSUSE for you.
Here, take this & give us the results.

Hmmmm, I'd give Ubuntu a try & like the test said, openSUSE is worth trying.
By the looks of it, you seem fit for Gnome & KDE, so if you don't like Ubuntu you can always try Kubuntu or Xubuntu (xfce, but it looks kinda like Gnome).

true that. soo many distros to try..soo much on offer. distrowatch is a great site to see which are the top ones, still sticking with arch on one partition but will try opensuse soon.

i agree linux msn alternatives are crap for those who like all those msn live funtions. pidgin is a load of crap, prefer kopete. also i hate it how if you have two accounts the all get logged into which is annoying whereas in msn you choose which one to log on to

also for wine, have you tried playonlinux ?? its a gui for wine, lets you install games with an easy wizard. il put up a video of it in action later

Thomas....have you run Dreamlinux for any length of time? It's a better looking OS than any I've seen, period....with that Dock and all....runs on Debian Sid does it? I mean the darned XFCE version booted up live looked fantastic with that MAC-like dock? Just seems too good to be true....impressive
